Printing Crit research

As a result of my crit it was suggested that I looked at a certain art and artists and her is my research. I think that they they have helped me and given me ideas on how I can possibly further develop my work. I think that I will go bigger and also try more complex patterns.

Frank Stella

18 Turn Clockwise to Tighten

I have looked at Stella's work because of his use of bold use of line and colour. The paintings that made Stella Famous were the black and white line paintings that I have pictured. I think that even though they aren't prints they could clearly be quite influential on my work. His early works are very simple and include an element of an optical illusion. This helps there become movement in the painting and also depth. His later work is very exact and includes more colour, they look very much engineered almost made on the computer. Stella is influenced by abstract expressionism and tries to create space with lines and very flat images.

Joan Miro

Miro is famous for his surrealist pieces that where created throughout the early twentieth century. He was a painter, sculptor and worked in ceramics. I think that the surrealist style that he worked in was almost childlike, which at the time wasn't really appreciated in society. I personally I don't really like the work, but I can see the connection between his work and mine. We use the same colour combinations and both of our works are very bold and in your face.

A.R Penck

Penck is a neo-expressionist artist who studied in Germany.  He wanted his art to provoke a primitive emotion, often it was his sculptures that bought this feeling out. His work has some really dark themes and you feel that they really stand for something, but it's really hard to pinpoint it to one thing. I have looked at him because of his use of line, I think that it could change and influence the way I draw my lines.

Aborginal art

Aboriginal art uses really natural colour which is usually made from things such as dirt and berries as that was all that was availinble at the time. The colours tend to be browns and warm coulours such as red and organge. It is made up of small dots that build up to create patterns. They can be closed really close together so you cant even really tell that they dots. The shapes are quite organic and I can see the similarities with my work. The shapes seem to be quite random as well, the works are about loads of different tribal stories that have been passed down through generations.
