Painting Crit

Painting Crit

My Painting Project presented for my Crit
I have had my painting crit this week and I chose to present these to Pieces on the wall because I felt that these showed a clear progression in my work. I think that the progression has really effected the outcomes of my work and this may have come form influences such as Gerhard Richter and Sarah Morris that I have already come across in my research. Below are the idea that got suggested to me in my crit to help me further develop my work. I think that I could refine my pallet, maybe select five colours before I start painting so I could only use them or mix them with the others to create my painting. Also as suggested I think I would like to start work on a large scale piece of MDF as there is no give in it compared to canvas.

I will also look at the arts that have been suggested which are:

  •  Jackson Pollock
  •  Mondrian
  •  Bridget Riley
  • Fiona Rae
  • Pia Fries
  • Andrew Wick

Painting Crit Statement

To start my project explored a few ways I could develop my ideas to do with Urban Environment, but then decided to concentrate on the way architecture is used within it. I then created a photo book from holidays over the summer to show varied styles of architecture from around the world, this book has started as inspiration for simple line drawings which I then tried making lines with many different objects to develop my drawing into a painting. I have been experimenting with colour combinations and then reinforcing straight line back into it to create structure. I have gained inspiration from artists such as Gerhard Richter and Sarah Morris.
