Drawing Talks

I have had drawing talks last week and I have just make some quick notes on each artist so they can help me develop my work for my project.

Henri Michaux

Michaux's work is clearly influenced by Zen paintings from China; the ink is placed in a way that to me it looks like water. Michaux was a poet that had quite a troubled life; his wife dies and suffered with depression. This lead to drugs and his work becoming a lot more wild and vivid.

Frank Auerbach

Uses layers to create image which is very similar to the way that her creates his paintings. His self portrait is called chasing his own shadow this suggests that he feels like he's always chasing himself. I like the way it is made up of loads of little lines that have been really quickly drawing.

Tim Knowles

He explored ideas to do with movement and dragging things, but likes to keep his work in the open environment and at one with nature. He collects information in his work, usually a journey or tries to provoke a mark.

James Allen

Allen's work is mainly Architectural Drawings made up of dragging and marks with charcoal and chalk. The drags in the charcoal create an illusion of movement and hustle and bustle. He includes the human figure to give a scale to the drawing and also revisits the same spot to document change.
